Shortly after we purchased Mayhem!, my mom Diane, was out for a visit. Even in the boats ragged state, my enthusiasm for sailing and for really turning the boat into something terrific must have been evident. As we sailed around Penn Cove and wandered out into Saratoga Passage, my mom asks "so what would it take for you to be competitive and really turn this boat around?". My reply was quite simply this "well, a lot of practice for starters... but mostly, good quality sails". Her reply??? "Happy Birthday". After a brief exchange confirming that she new what she was getting herself into, it was decided. My 29th birthday present would be new sails for my old boat. Could it get any better? Thanks Mom!!!
After talking with three sail makers, I decided on Ullman Sails. They were delivered just in time for my trip to Anacortes to compete in Northern Century in late August. The sails are gorgeous as you can see. I've only used them once and plan to use them only for special races and regattas. I can't wait to get a new bottom on Mayhem! and get out there and win some races! If the boat is all dialed in, the only person to blame if we perform poorly will be me!
